Italian citizens living in Wales can vote in the 2026 COMITES elections to elect the 18 members of COMITES London, which represents Italians across the London consular district, including Wales.

Unlike Italian general elections and referendums, you must register specifically to receive a COMITES ballot. Being registered with AIRE does not automatically mean you will receive one.

Who can vote?

To vote, you must be an Italian citizen aged 18 or over, registered with AIRE and resident in the London consular district for at least six months by the election date.

How to register

You can request your ballot through the Italian Consulate General in London in one of four ways:

  1. Online: Through the Fast It portal.
  2. By email: Send the completed and signed registration form and a copy of your valid identity document to londra.elettorale@esteri.it.
  3. By post: Send the completed form and identity document copy to the Consulate General of Italy, Harp House, 83–86 Farringdon Street, London EC4A 4BL.
  4. In person: Submit your application at the Consulate in London, Monday to Friday, 1:30pm–4:30pm.

You can find the registration form here and further instructions on the Italian Consulate’s COMITES elections page.

The registration deadline is 4th November 2026. Your application must reach the Consulate by this date.

How does voting work?

Voting takes place entirely by post. Once registered and confirmed as eligible, you will receive an electoral pack at your registered home address.

The pack contains the ballot paper, voting instructions and the materials needed to return your vote.

You can vote for an electoral list and express preferences for individual candidates on that list. Follow the instructions included in your electoral pack when completing your ballot.

Your completed ballot must arrive at the Consulate General in London by 4th December 2026. This is the deadline for receipt, not the date by which you should post it, so allow sufficient time for delivery.

Who is standing?

Five electoral lists are contesting the 18 seats on COMITES London in 2026. Voters can choose a list and express preferences for individual candidates on that list.

The Italian Consulate General in London has published the official list of electoral lists and candidates, including the names of everyone standing.
