It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dom Balestrazzi. A very well known and valued member of our community, Dom passed away on March 11th surrounded by his family. We are sure you will all join us in sending heartfelt condolences to Dom’s family; Virginia, Paolo, Anna and Marco.

Dom’s family shared some memories of his colourful life…

Dad spent his childhood through to his later years, in Treorchy. Along with many of the Welsh-Italian boys at that time, Dad went to boarding school at Prior Park in Bath. His school days were some of his best days and he always talked about them with such passion.

At 16, he left school and took over the running of the family cafe in Treorchy. Dad, at first with our grandparents and later with our mum, Virginia, went on to serve the local public for over 60 years. He absolutely loved the local community and made many close friendships during his life at the cafe.

Rugby was one of our Dad’s passions; he played in his youth and was a big supporter all his life and sponsor of Treorchy Rugby Club.

Growing up, we often attended the AVC events; Dad primarily loved the Briscola which allowed him to socialise with all the other Italians of his age. We have such fond memories of attending the events when we were young.

We also have so many fond memories of driving to Italy as a family for 6 weeks in the summer. Dad would always want to drive straight through to Italy with 4 kids in the car, never booked accommodation. Our mum would always make him stop overnight but by the time we stopped, we struggled to find accommodation!!!

We all have so many wonderful memories from our childhood going to Italy and growing up surrounded by so much love and affection with all the family in Treorchy.

A final farewell

For those wishing to attend, Dom’s funeral will be held on April 4th at 12:30pm in Tonypandy Church, followed by interment at Treorchy Cemetery. Following those services, well wishers are welcome to celebrate Dom’s life at Treorchy Rugby Club.
